Сэр Рональд Эйлмер Фишер (англ. Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher, 17 февраля 1890 — 29 июля 1962) — английский статистик, биолог-эволюционист и генетик. Андерс Халд охарактеризовал его как «гения, едва не в одиночку заложившего основы современной статистики» [1], а Ричард Докинз назвал «величайшим последователем Дарвина»[2].
Биография
Фишер родился в лондонском Ист-Финчли, в семье Джорджа и Кэти Фишер. Его отец был успешным торговцем предметами изящного искусства. Детство его было счастливым, он был обожаем тремя старшими сёстрами, старшим братом и матерью, которая умерла, когда Рональду было 14. Его отец всего 18 месяцев спустя обанкротился, проведя несколько неудачных сделок.[3]
Хотя у Фишера было плохое зрение, он был не по годам развитым учеником и в возрасте 16 лет выиграл «Neeld Medal» (конкурс по математике) в школе Харроу (лат. Harrow School). По причине всё того же плохого зрения, его обучали математике без использования «бумаги и пера», что развило способность представлять задачу в терминах геометрии. Фишер был знаменит умением получать ответ, опуская промежуточные этапы. Он также проявлял сильный интерес к биологии, в особенности, к эволюционному учению.
Колоссальный вклад был внесён им в развитие современной прикладной матстатистики — скажем, основным методом оценки статистической значимости корреляций типа «два-на-два» до сих пор является «точный тест Фишера» (Fisher’s exact test).
